I wonder sometimes that we follow the same route, the same routine, the same patterns, the same behaviours too often. And why not; they are comfortable, familiar and safe. The decision today to not take the same route has proven to be all the more interesting though.
I have been toying with the idea of having a base in Bristol since Graham passed away. The kids live there, I spend lots of time there, its exciting, vibrant and fun . But Woah! The property prices, the traffic, the lack of parking, not so appealing. I love the quiet and panoramic water views of my home. The thought of moving from here has felt like it would just add to the sensation of feeling Rudderless.
Getting up far earlier than I usually do I was going to walk from Clifton to Bedminster to pick up my car (after deciding to have a few drinks and not drive home). It was the most amazing sunshiny morning and I headed towards the Plimsoll bridge and Bedminster but instead I decided in the words of Supertramp - to take the long way home. I was curious about a turning I'd never taken (despite passing it in the car I don't know how many times). I took it & it led me onto the Harbourside walk.
Why had I never ended up on this bit of the walk before. If Bristol was the "hurricane" I had found the eye of the storm! No cars, no traffic noise, just joggers, passing rowers and a few ducks. I rang Garry a babbling mass of excitement, "I have just walked this walk and have felt the most alive I have felt for a long time". What an area to live in, what an amazing life style could be had. Curiosity got the better of me that evening and I googled the post code to see how much the neighbouring apartments cost. Ouch, but I kept on scrolling down to cheaper properties until. There they were, a couple of boats for sale in the Marina. With transferable moorings, the holy grail of secure parking, amazing views. How BLOODY exciting would that be to own and live on a boat!!!
